Presented by:  Sheryl Shook, PhD, LSP, TFT

Dr. Shook graduated from California Polytechnic State University in Engineering.  Upon graduation, she worked on the International Space Station Program.  She later earned her doctorate in neuroscience from University of California – Davis.  Her work with neurosurgery teams spurred her to find more answers to healing neurologic disorders thus leading to studies in herbal medicine. A strong desire to teach and empower others in their own healing led to Dr. Shook to co-author the book “Herbs and Nutrients for Neurologic Disorders”.  Dr. Shook teaches sleep science and human physiology at Kapi’olani Community College.

By the end of the presentation, you will gain an understanding of the following key points:

The jury is in! Sleep is possibly the most important predictor of how long you will live and how healthy you will feel. Poor sleep does more harm that just making you tired. Strong evidence links poor sleep to obesity, diabetes, depression, neurologic disorders, memory problems, and high blood pressure.  You will gain helpful tips to advise your patients and clients about ways to improve their sleep and sleep habits.

  • Keys to Better Brain Health

With a few key choices, you can improve brain and nervous system health, as well as take steps toward preventing neurologic disease.  You will learn ways to boost wellness and reduce the possibility of developing diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons. You will also learn ways to address dangerous nutritional imbalances, inflammation, and oxidation, reduce exposure to environmental toxins, and improve digestive system health.

  • Your Habits and Your Health: Simple Steps for Making Positive Change

When was the last time you made a commitment to improve your health by starting a new habit or getting rid of an old one?  Too often, these commitments end in disappointment and setbacks because we do not follow through.  Built on evidence from neuroscience, you will gain insight into the human nature we all share, and guide you toward successfully practicing habits that will improve your well-being.

  • Evidence-Based Practices: Sleep Wellness, Brain Health, Habit-Changing

With a wide range of time frames and settings in mind, learn practices to facilitate your patients and clients to progress towards better sleep, improved brain health, and the ability to change their habits.
